ASU lands former USC forward Brandon Gardner via transfer

With the first season in the Big 12 Conference just a few months from getting underway, coach Bobby Hurley and ASU are further improving their roster in anticipation of when that time comes.

On X (formerly Twitter), former USC power forward Brandon Gardner announced that he is transferring schools on the West Coast, committing to Arizona State. He took a recruiting visit to ASU on Friday and made up his mind that Tempe is the city where he’ll go to college next.

During his freshman year at USC, Gardner would only play one game for the Trojans after suffering a significant foot injury which kept him out for the remainder of the season. In his small sample size against California State University, Bakersfield, he scored two points in four minutes of action.

Coming out of high school in the class of 2023, the Georgia native was regarded as a four-star prospect by 247Sports. Prior to his arrival at USC, he originally signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with St. John’s before requesting to get out of it.

Adding even more size to the Sun Devils roster, Gardner stands at 6-foot-8 and 215 pounds. This offseason, ASU has also brought in five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American forward/center Jayden Quaintance who is 6-foot-9.

Like Gardner, former Milwaukee guard BJ Freeman, Ball State forward Basheer Jihad and Missouri State guard Alston Mason all transferred to Arizona State. Notable high schoolers Sammie Yeanay and Amier Ali committed to the Sun Devils as well.

Trying to make noise in the program’s first season in Big 12, Hurley and ASU will continue their search for other potential talent to help junior center Shawn Phillips Jr. and junior guard Adam Miller.
